We are quite lucky to be based in the pretty town of Wallingford and there are lots of hidden gems and interesting places to visit around here. Here are just 2 of them. Wallingford Castle Meadows, Wallingford Castle Meadows covers some 16.6 hectares on the banks of the River Thames in Wallingford. The meadows contain the site of Wallingford Castle which has a long and complex history. All that remains of the castle are two sections of wall which are Grade 1 listed and the bank and ditch earthworks which form part of the Scheduled Ancient Monument.
Island Farm Donkey Sanctuary
Island Farm Donkey Sanctuary is a registered charity that cares for abused and ill-treated donkeys and other animals. Although we do not actively rescue other animals, those that have joined us in recent years include a sheep, some goats, chickens, geese, ducks and a pot bellied pig called Percy.
Located in the village of Brightwell-cum-Sotwell near Wallingford, Oxfordshire, we welcome visitors between 11am and 4pm daily. Although we do not charge an entrance fee, donations are appreciated.
